I painted this piece "in situ", meaning outside, from a real branch. I love painting outside; I always imagine I'm an explorer on a new continent, documenting unknown species. It wasn't easy to paint these delicate birch leaves, as the wind kept rearranging them. While I was painting, a little girl stopped by and asked what I was doing. She seemed to like the idea to paint outside and asked a whole lot of questions about my brushes and why I had so many different greens in my palette. Maybe, hopefully, she will also paint outside one day.
